                 VLR_Nitro repeats at Peakview (4/23/05)

VLR "rdrunner 25" results Peakview- Heat Race 1-2 and A-Main,

Heat Race 1-2
Heat 2 was an action packed race throughout the 10 laps. VLR_Shock qualified on the pole with the absence of VLR_rdrunner and Hinzman. He jumped out to a comfortable margin early over hard charging [GRC][56]. The competition was very fierce for places 3 and 4, with only 3rd place moving on the the A-main. VLR_KYROCKET and Eatmud were side by side at the line but KY received the transfer spot by grabbing 3rd by one quarter of a car length. VLR_Shock won the 2nd heat by nearly 2 seconds over young gunner [GRC][56]. He also had the best lap time of 16.98. VLR_KYROCKET, Eatmud, and VLR_Razz(DNF) rounded out the finishers. In Heat 1 the finish was 1. VLR_Nitro 2. Fergie 3. VLR_wg20 4. Tyner_052 5. VLR_kscueball.

A-Main
The race was held back a bit as the track needed water. VLR_wg20 came in and announced that he blew his motor in hot laps and that he would be forced to resign from the A-Main. This made the Starters 1. VLR_Nitro, 2. VLR_Shock, 3. Fergie, 4. [GRC][56] 5. VLR_KYROCKET. VLR_Nitro once again won his heat race this week and started on the pole for the race. It was a thriller from the get go. Nitro was the favorite to win this week to make it back to back wins in 2 weeks. This was much easier said than done. In turn one, lap one, VLR_Shock jumped out to the lead over Nitro. Shock went high in the turn to try to stay out of everyones way. Next, he felt a bump and slid up the track coming out of turn 2...Young phenom [GRC][56] had already jumped up to the lead from 4th place, as he took the lead from Shock. As the racer's barreled down the trioval, Nitro, [GRC][56], and Shock were all three wide battling for the lead. Amidst the action packed racing, fergie saw an opportunity to join the front runners in the battling. His opportunity arose as the driver's went into turn three. All of a sudden,
[GRC][56] and fergie rubbed each other a little. At that moment, [GRC][56] slid up into VLR_Shock causing him to lose ground on the leaders and slide back to fourth, well behind the top 3. Nitro survived the mayhem and jumped out to a 9 car-length lead. Fergie was unable to finish the pass over [GRC][56], but he wouldn't give up. The two racer's stayed near side by side for the next 10 or so laps. The two proved their driving skills to be evident, as they both rode side by side, rubbing each other the entire time without losing much ground at all. Their battling did have one negative effect, as it allowed VLR_Nitro to jump out to nearly a 2 second lead over the pack. Shock also saw the two battling up ahead of him, and he decided that he wanted a piece of the action. He gained lap after lap on [GRC][56], who had since dropped in behind fergie for third, after managing to hang on to second for a few laps. [GRC][56] began losing ground on fergie and Shock began gaining on him. Around lap 18, Shock caught and passed [GRC][56], as he freely let him go by. [GRC][56] managed to stay in his draft, and the two picked up a head of steam on fergie. The three were rejoined in the pursuit which had begun on the very first lap. The bumping and banging were back, as the three racer's battled for second place. Many times, they went three wide for the position, and it was hard to tell who came out on top among the three. In the meantime, Nitro stretched his lead out to nearly 3 seconds. Finally, Shock managed to get around [GRC][56] and fergie for second. He stretched his lead to about 2 carlengths over the battling duo. As many drivers know, the draft can make or break you at the famed Peakview Speedway, and although Shock had jumped out to a small margin for second, he knew that [GRC][56] and fergie would be right back on his bumper shortly. This proved true, as fergie got a head of steam from [GRC][56] and the battle was resumed with about 5 laps to go. Meanwhile, with all the hard racing in front of him, the quiet racer of the day, VLR_KYROCKET closed within a second of positions 2-4. He was unable to mount a major challenge, as he had no one behind him to work with. On the final lap, it became apparent that Nitro was well on his way to his second win in a row. This still didn't diminish the battle for second at all. Coming out of turn 4 on lap 24 of 25, fergie tapped the rear of VLR_Shocks Stanger to let him know that he was ready to make the pass. As the 2 passed the finish line going into the last lap, fergie still hadn't managed to fully complete the pass. Shock knew that he wouldn't have a chance to get second if he didn't let fergie by and challenge him in turn 4. He slid up in turn one, and fergie easily grabbed second. Shock managed to dip back down into the groove, right in front of [GRC][56]. [GRC][56] couldn't hardly keep up with the convincing draft of fergie and Shock, and he slid back behind them by about a carlength. As the racer's headed down into turn 3, VLR_Nitro had already passed over the finish line for his second win in a row, while fergie, Shock, [GRC][56], and VLR_KYROCKET were all nose-to-tail heading into the final turn. Shock saw a chance to make the pass on fergie as he dived way low into turn 4. He got in some loose dirt and slid up a little, as fergie tried to protect the inside. Somehow, Shock managed to get under fergie and make it side by side. He got a fine run going out of the turn and hopped in front of fergie by a nose-length! That is how the two crossed the finish line at the end of the race with the edge going to Shock by 0.003 seconds over the "Crazy Canadien" fergie. After the race, the only thing that fergie had to say was, "Save that replay". The racer's congratulated each other for the hard racing, which proved that VLR is the place to race at in 2005! Congratulations to everyone for participating, and congrats to VLR_Nitro for taking command for the second week in a row, by winning by over 5 seconds. The rest of the finisher's were less than one second apart from each other! The best lap award went to Nitro and fergie both, as they both recorded laps of 16.86 in the 25 lap race. After the race, Nitro had this to say, "I was glad to survive the mayhem on lap 1, and I was sure that someone was going to wreck," he continued, "I think next week you guys should put me at the rear of whatever main I am in." Ye ask and Ye shall recieve. Next week, as the racer's take on the add-on track ACR v.2, much of the same action is expected, as current VLR points leader Nitro looks to come from the rear to win. LOL, np GRC...Nitro was using the name VLR_Nitro before race...and he ran one hot lap and his time was (Only) a 16.96. He said that the VLR tag was too heavy and so i suggested that he remove it and make it VLR_N lol...so he did. He was happy, and everyone had fun...It was certainly one of the greatest A-Mains you will ever see, a lot of fun with 2nd through fifth separated by about a half second...I wish you could have been there matt, but np...Lot of fun. Later,

Shock
