VLR Race Report!
Heat 1 Heat 1 was an amazing display of skill by the drivers. The driver's attempted to get heat 1 in and did, but came back to chat and said it was warpy. Instead, they went into the Heat 2 server after that heat finished. On the pole in the first heat was Rodney. VLR_RD lineup next to him in second, with EFT starting third and VLR_N in fourth. GRT_Coolman and IGGR_MC rounded out the Heat 1 starters. From the beginning, it was an awesome race. Lorentz is a track that no one expected much passing coming into the event, unless it was because another driver hit the wall on the very tight, narrow track. But passing is a challenge these hard core racer's are willing to take. Right from the beginning, VLR_Nitro worked his way around EFT and then VLR_RD, and was already up to second! Rodney told VLR that he was sure glad to be starting on the pole in the heat, because no one expected this much battling, without someone wrecking. Nitro had quickly battled up to second, and now it was time to cut down Rodney's lead. He did just that after early morning practice sessions seemed to prove that this kind of racing couldn't be done. But Nitro was on a mission to catch Rodney in the 10 lap heat, and he did. He flew by Rodney leaving RD and him in his dust to battle. No one can catch him as he is the only person to win a heat race this season from that far back, on what is easily the most narrow track VLR has raced at. The driver's headed back to chat and Nitro admitted that he was shaking uncontrollably after that great finish, saying, "If I shake like that anymore, I'm retiring." Well, I guess we would soon find out in the A Main, huh. Not only that, VLR_Nitro also captured the event's fast lap in heat 1, a 12.29, an accomplishment in itself!Rodney still picked up the second place finish as he and VLR_RDrunner were doing battle, with EFT, IGGR_MC, and GRT_Coolman completing the finishing order.
Heat 2 In Heat 2, everything went smoothly. IGGR_Jigger sat on the pole in front of his hometown fans, with VLR_kscueball, VLR_Shock, VLR_razz, and Steven_Hall behind him. At the start, Steven_Hall gave Shock a bump and went low, only to be re-passed by him almost as quickly. Jigger, kscueball, and Shock then began to pull away from Hall and Razz. The three stayed close for a couple of laps, but then VLR_Shock got a little loose and dropped back a little bit. IGGR_Jigger began to pull away from VLR_kscueball during this time as well. The racer's were spread out down to the end, with the top 3 each about 1 second behind the other. In the end though, fan favorite Jigger made the local crowd happy as he crossed the checkered flag in first after heat 2. VLR_kscueball was second, with VLR_Shock about 1 second behind him. Steven_Hall was fourth and VLR_razz rounded out the competition in the second heat.
B-Main EFT led the racer's to the green in the B Main, as he looked to win his second one in a row. Steven_Hall garnered a second placed start in the B Main, his best yet, followed by IGGR_MC, VLR_razz, GRT_Coolman, and mag, a late entry to the event. EFT proved to have the car to beat today though, after turning consistent laps again and again. mag, who started 6th place after arriving late to the festivities worked his way all the way up to second, but during this time, EFT had checked out, big time. He was lapping cars with ease and had almost a two straightaway lead over mag, in second. VLR_razz's day was cut short this week for some reason, and by the end of the race, there were only 5 racers left. EFT continued to lap everyone down but mag and proved that he was the guy to beat. No one could stop him and he easily won his second B Main in a row in an extremely dominating performance.
A-Main The A Main was an exciting one, as it would prove who was the most consistent racer today. Rolling to the start was VLR_N, driving a car he originally painted for VLR_razz, but was so amazed with it that he figured he'd use it for the race, but who could blame him, he had already done an amazing job with it in heat 1, in a startling performance. Starting second at his hometrack was IGGR_Jigger. Rodney started third and along side him at the start it was VLR_kscueball. Fifth featured VLR_RD, and rounding out the A Main starter's was VLR_Shock. From the start, Nitro quickly jumped out to a 1 carlength lead. The racers settled in single file and ran nose to tail for the next couple of laps. VLR_Shock began to slowly drop back from the rest of the pack, as VLR_N tried to pull away. By lap 10, the racing began to spread out a little, and most of the battling was between VLR_kscueball and VLR_RD for 4th place. You really shouldn't call it battling but hard nose close racing I guess would be better suited for this track. In the meantime though, Rodney and IGGR_Jigger were doing the same thing, but they were able to put a little separation between themselves and 4th place. VLR_Nitro was still pulling away from the rest of the field but not by much. The racing stayed this way for a long time and Nitro seemed to have started hitting his stride later in the race. By lap 35 the racer's were still where they had started the race only a little more spread out. Nitro proved that one can be consistent for long periods of time at Lorentz Speedway, and he had stretched his lead to about 2 seconds over Jigger. Rodney had lost a little ground to Jigger earlier in the race and he tried to make it up near the end but ultimately he would run out of laps. The race didn't hold much drama until the very last lap. VLR_Shock was in grave danger of falling a lap down to Nitro as he struggled along in 6th place. Then, suddenly, while running fourth VLR_kscueball hit the wrong button on his controller while in a great battle with VLR_RD and hit the wall and crossed the track and landed in the grass on his side. Shock saw this and noticed that Nitro was almost pushing him as they headed down the back straightaway on the final lap. The cars went by kscueball with ease, but VLR_N was trying to deal with this lap car on the last lap. As they went into turn 4, Shock felt a bump. He was checking his rear view mirror often wondering what he should do to avoid Nitro's fast car. Instead, Nitro himself came up with a solution. He helped Shock out and pushed him across the line to take the win, while Shock remained on the lead lap. It was a great finish to an even better race. IGGR_Jigger crossed the line 2 seconds behind VLR_N to take home second place, followed by Rodney, VLR_RD, VLR_Shock, and VLR_kscueball who had the tough break on the last lap in 6th. After the race, Nitro congratulated everyone saying, "I'd like to thank the Razz sponsored car for taking home the victory and the crew at VLR for working so hard for this race and the broadcasters that displayed a great race from the start and all the driver's that showed up." It was definitely a fun filled event at VLR today, as points chase grew even closer with the top 5 separated by just over 20 points, with a new points leader, IGGR_Jigger. Well, it was for sure a great day for racing and we hope to see you all back next week at Parkside for the Rantin Racing 25! Have fun.
