IGGR_Jigger is the man at Sunday Springs, VLR_wg20 takes the B Main (7/9/05)

VLR Race Report!

Heat 1
Heat 1 featured IGGR_Jigger on the pole, and first time VLR racer, Mr_Clean16 starting in second. Lining up third was JC_Rac03, and alongside him was another first time VLR racer, Crazy. Rounding out the starters was [GRC][56], VLR_razz, and VLR_kscueball. There wasn't very much battling going on in the heat though, except for VLR_kscueball, he was able to get all the way up to fourth place after starting 7th in the heat. He came up just short of the transfer spot though, and in the end it was IGGR_Jigger crossing the line in first, which would pin him on the pole for the A Main. Mr_Clean finished second, and JC_Rac03 received the last transfer spot with a third place finish. VLR_kscueball grabbed 4th place. Crazy and VLR_razz rounded out the finishers in heat 1.

Heat 2
Heat 2 was a very good race. Lining up in first was a 3 time heat winner going into the race, VLR_Shock. On the outside of row one was GnS*Tyner_052. mag had trouble finding out where to go and didn't make it in time to race. This plotted VLR_wg20 third, with howrudoin fourth, and GRT_Coolman 5th. At the start, VLR_Shock quickly jumped out to the lead, but Tyner was cutting him no slack as he stayed on his bumper. VLR_wg20 had no control whatsoever in his steering, and he was unable to complete the race so he was forced to exit out. GRT_Coolman somehow was able to rapidly work his way passed second place and then he passed Shock for the lead. Shock could tell that something was wrong, but he still was able to make the pass back by him. He then stayed in second, and then the last lap came. He went into turn four really fast and passed Shock, but he quickly got around him again on the inside. Shock won by .00003 seconds. After reviewing Coolmans best lap (10.24, after he qualified a 10.80), Shock felt like he may have been cheating. Shock gave him a strong warning, and he pretended that he didn't know what he was talking about, but everyone knew he did. The positions stood, but Shock told Coolman that if it happened again in the race, severe punishment would occur. In the heat though, VLR_Shock won, with GRT_Coolman second. Tyner_052 was third, and howrudoin in 4th. VLR_wg20 and GFNmag finished with DNFs.

B-Main
In the B Main, VLR_kscueball would line up on the pole. Starting next to him was howrudoin. [GRC][56] was third, followed by VLR_wg20, Crazy, and mag. There was a little warp in this race, as VLR had to use a backup server after problems with the main one. There was a lot of passing though, and VLR_kscueball was unable to hold on to his lead very long. VLR_wg20 proved that he had a good car, and that it was hooking up nicely in the main. He was able to make a few passes and battled his way to the lead. VLR_kscueball was unable to keep up with him, and he dropped all the way back to fourth after starting on the pole. [GRC][56] moved all the way up to second, followed by 6th place starter, mag. There was lots of passing in the b main, here at the wide, short Sunday Springs raceway. In the end though, VLRs own, wg20, crossed the line in first, followed by [GRC][56]. mag rolled across the line in third, and VLR_kscueball was behind him. Crazy crossed the line 5th, and howrudoin rounded out the B Main finishers in 6th.

A-Main
The A Main featured some exciting racing, as well as some flaring tempers. The first attempt at the A Main went badly. VLR_Shock flipped on lap 4, but no one restarted. IGGR_Jigger was pulling away from the drivers though, but not by much. Coolman made his way all the way to second, and was quickly reeling in Jigger. On lap 40, the 'almost' lap car of JC_Rac03 was just ahead of IGGR_Jigger. Amazingly, GRT_Coolman made a last lap effort to win the race, as the racers headed to turn four. But, what he did was get together with IGGR_Jigger, and sent him rolling down the straight. After the race, it became obvious that GRT_Coolman was cheating, and he was banned PERMANENTLY from VLR races. The A Main was ran a second time, with much better results. After a couple of restarts for accidents, the racing was on. Lining up first was IGGR_Jigger, last seasons winner at Sunday Springs, and heat 1 winner. VLR_Shock had won his 4th Heat 2 of the season in 5 starts, and lined up on the outside front row. Mr_Clean16 started on the inside of row 2. Alongside him was JC_Rac03. Rounding out the field on the inside of row three was GnS*Tyner_052. At the start, Jigger and Shock got off to great starts, and they were both nose to tail heading down into turn 4. Mr_Clean and JC_Rac03 began to battle quickly, and they made a little contact. This enabled Tyner to move up to second place from his 5th place starting position. While Rac and Clean were battling, IGGR_Jigger and VLR_Shock were pulling away, yet they were still very close to each other. As the laps wore on, VLR_Shock began to make a few mistakes that allowed Jigger to pull away to just over a second. Tyner was closing in on Shock, while Mr_Clean and JC_Rac03 were still having a great battle. On lap 19 though, points leader, and race leader, IGGR_Jigger slid up into no-mans land and lost a lot of the interval between him and Shock.  Shock was watching the split time closely and noticed it went from just over one second, all the way down to about 5 car lengths. Unfortunately, he was so caught up in catching Jigger, he was not concentrating on his consistency. And then, on the very next lap, 20, he dove into turn four and cut the car a little to hard and spun while in second place. While spinning though, he took Tyner_052 with him and they both went for a ride. They slid down low in the turn and Mr_Clean and JC_Rac03 were left doing battle. After the accident, Jigger mounted a very comfortable lead over the rest of the pack. The bottom four were now very close together though after the spin. Mr_Clean16 and JC_Rac03 were swapping paint like crazy, but Shock and Tyner were still over a couple of seconds behind them. After the accident, Shock waited up on Tyner out of sportsmanship, and the two were able to regroup. They were both waiting patiently for Rac or Clean to make a mistake. Then, on about lap 35, good news came to them. After battling the whole race, JC_Rac03 and Mr_Clean made contact and Mr Clean brushed the wall and dropped back just enough for Tyner and Shock to catch him. Mr Clean was not about to give up though, but Tyner finally completed the pass for third. Then, it was VLR_Shock's turn to join the battling. He closed in fast on the two and he got around Tyner and Mr Clean in the same turn! He the set his sites on JC_Rac03 for second. Meanwhile, IGGR_Jigger had approximately a 7 second lead. After VLR_Shock passed Mr_Clean16 and GnS*Tyner_052, Mr Clean was able to clear the pass around Tyner for fourth. Unfortunately, Shock messed up again and dropped back to last place again, right with Tyner. In the last couple of laps though, he caught Tyner, and was finally able to complete the pass for fourth in one of the most eventful last couple of laps you will ever see in dtr2 racing. In the end though, it was IGGR_Jigger who would claim his first win this season, and his second consecutive win at Sunday Springs. He also recorded the fastest lap of the day, with a stellar 10.32. The win also enabled him to stretch his points lead out a lot with the absense of VLR_Nitro, Rodney, and VLR_RD. IGGR_Jigger and JC_Rac03 were also the winners of the transfer spot to the big race that the DTR2 summit series (DSS) is hosting at Syracuse in October. Practice up boys, and good luck! Thanks for making the race a good one, and we hope to see you all again next week as the VLR boys plan to take on the always fun Spindale track, and last season's winner, VLR_kscueball looks to repeat, but look for lots of competition on raceday. Well, have a nice week and cya Saturday!
